The day that Alexis Munoa’s dad gave her a Billie Holiday album changed her life. A product of San Diego, Alexis grew up riding waves, eating tangerines, and loving life. She was a child of the music around her - The Beatles, Bob Marley, Thomas Dolby, B.B. King, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Mozart, Nina Simone, Steely Dan, The Cure and Debussy, but Billie just knocked her socks off.
Fast forward. Alexis was discovered by Bob Bailey as a university freshman and the old-school jazz piano man took her under his wing. They jammed and jammed, then listened and jammed some more. Soon, Alexis was deeply, truly in love with America’s musical roots, and she knew why her first listen to Ms. Holiday affected her so deeply. She had found the wellspring of the music she adored.
Alexis is now studying music at Brigham Young University. She sings all over Utah in several different groups and as a solo artist. She has toured Spain and Portugal with Synthesis, BYU's premiere big band. She currently plays with the Rob Bennion band and Magnanimous. She will soon be releasing her own album, a collaboration with old school piano man, Bob Bailey.
